CCTV, or “Closed Curcuit Television”, refers to electronic monitoring systems which make use of video cameras that are connected by means of a private (closed) circuit.
CCTV surveillance cameras capture, collect, record, and/or relay visual information about events that take place in a given location over time. |
Prevention - The promise of CCTV lies in the expectation of deterrance. Deterrance is a prevention strategy that would “convince” potential offenders to delay their actions, avoid a particular target, or abstain from the intended activity at all.
Detection - CCTV is one of the best investigative tools when it comes to “finding out” what, when, how a certain activity happened, and most importantly: who did it. Most of the times, CCTV footage are concidered as incriminating evidence in a court of law. |
