What are Detectors?

Detectors, within the physical security and safety context, are electronic observation devices that are capable of detecting persons or situations that have defeated security measures to gain access to or harm: property, resources, or data of an organization without proper authorization.

Most Detectors are perceived to be hidden electronic sensors that are always idle unless they are triggered by intrusion (e.g. glass window break-ins), the physical movement or motion of a body mass at the wrong time in a specific location (e.g. inside a closed-down mall at night), or by sensing fire or smoke inside a facility.

Once an incident is detected, the security detector would immediately alert the organization authority of the incident. This alert is trnasmitted in many ways, for example: the detector would sound off an alarm, send data to a computer, send an SMS message, or simply lock all facility doors to trap in an intruder.
