Digital Video Recorders

When recording images with a CCTV system for extended periods of time, two devices are most commonly used: a digital video recorder and a time-lapse VCR.

A digital video recorder uses a computer hard drive to capture images in a digital format, which allows them to be viewed in real time via the Internet or over LAN, WAN or telephone lines.

A time-lapse VCR uses a standard-sized videotape with a higher density of magnetic particles. However, this method of recording CCTV feedback has become less popular due to its inherited limitations compared to DVRs.

DVRs are mostly used for their flexibility in broadcasting live or recorded footage over any TCP/IP enabled media. Bandwidth consumption of DVRs can be controlled according to the given resources.

Depending on the model, type, and features of the DVR, up to 16 cameras can be hooked to a single DVR with the option of viewing any number of camera feedback in just one screen over your LAN or WAN.
